The 2013 Drive is underway!
Thanks to our wonderful donors from 2011
As a result of their wonderful efforts 4 Port School students were awarded a scholarship to allow them to further an academic, arts or sport interest this year.
As you may remember the Port School is a small independent school in Hamilton Hill supporting at-risk youth in Years 8-12. A local school helping disadvantaged Western Australian youth.
A NEW ADVENTURE!
In 2012 the Port School has planned a community service trip to Klang, Malaysia where ten Port students will work with a local school for mentally challenged young people to help improve their school and resources. The Port students have been busy raising funds for much needed equipment for the school in Klang. The students are also fundraising for their own expenses.
Due the success of the 2011 scholarship drive the 2012 drive will not only support 4 more students with personal academic support scholarships but will also support students who may wish to apply for the international community service trip. This financial support will assist students with the acquisition and retrieval of personal documents and most importantly will result in the issue of an international passport. Simply 'getting these personal documents in order' for each student is an incredibly valuable process and end product - for many this will set them up for job interviews and other future endeavours. For most students the financial requirements of the trip are prohibitive. Each student is subsidised by the school through various fundraising efforts and students are given the opportunity to earn money by completing work around the school after hours including cleaning and general maintenance.
We at the Port School hope that you may wish to continue to support the Port School students.
Warm regards
Anne - Board Member Port School
